Automobile safety is the study and practice of vehicle design, construction, and equipment to minimise the occurrence and consequences of automobile accidents. (Road traffic safety more broadly includes roadway design.) Improvements in roadway and automobile design have steadily reduced injury and death rates in all first world countries. Nevertheless, auto collisions are the leading cause of injury-related deaths, an estimated total of 1.2 million in 2004, or 25% of the total from all causes. Risk compensation limits the improvement that can be made, often leading to reduced safety where one might expect the opposite. Occupational drivingWork-related roadway crashes are the leading cause of death from traumatic injuries in the U.S. workplace. They accounted for nearly 12,000 deaths between 1992 and 2000. Deaths and injuries from these roadway crashes result in increased costs to employers and lost productivity in addition to their toll in human suffering. Truck drivers tend to endure higher fatality rates than workers in other occupations, but concerns about motor vehicle safety in the workplace are not limited to those surrounding the operation of large trucks. Workers outside the motor carrier industry routinely operate company-owned vehicles for deliveries, sales and repair calls, client visits, and countless other job tasks. In these instances, the employer providing the vehicle generally plays a major role in setting safety, maintenance, and training policy. As in non-occupational driving, young drivers are especially at risk. In the workplace, 45% of all fatal injuries to workers under age 18 between 1992 and 2000 in the United States resulted from transportation incidents. From Wikipedia under the

Basically you just have to get your car inspected by a insurance company approved mechanic before you can aquire car insurance in AB. If the inspection is clear, great, if the mechanic finds problems, you will have to get them fixed before you can get car insurance. It is pretty standard in most provinces. Answered by shoegal - Wed Jul 2 23:19:33 2008 How do we best inform the public about the way semi trucks work in order to insure safe driving around them?
Q. I am a semi truck driver. These trucks can be dangerous if you don't know how they work. ie.. they are heavy & therefore it takes lots more time to stop a semi than a automobile. There are "blind spots". "Blind spots" are places like directly in front of us, beside us and behind us that we cannot see even with our mirrors. Other vehicles in these "blind spots" are putting themselves and others at safety risk. Semi trucks also need tons of room to make turns so we make WIDE turns and then we get some other vehicle come up beside us while making this turn and this results in an accident. Drivers of semi trucks must follow Federal Rules that the public is not made aware. The public also does not seem to see the signs on roadsides that say… [cont.] Asked by kktruckin - Wed May 24 12:12:12 2006 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. What Americans don't understand is the at some time or another, everything that they buy was on a truck! We demand items, but don't like TT on the road next to us. The main problem is that people are afraid of trucks. People don't understand the amount of training, and effort goes into driving truck. There is only one thing that we can do, and that is to stay the course. When your around non-transportation public you have to educate them. Educate your family and friends, and ask them to pass the information along.
