What is it that makes 1911 models so expensive often?
Q. I was wondering about this. The 1911 is a very old pistol design, it's been around for a very long time. It is tried and has proven itself and the design has changed very little over time. Aside from a few adjustments here and there, it's the same as it was so long ago. Why is it that on average, 1911 pistols are quite a bit more expensive than other popular pistols? A 1911 from Kimber, Springfield Armory, S&W, SIG, Colt, etc. etc. are almost always over $1000 new. You can get a brand new Beretta 92/96, Ruger P89, Smith and Wesson metal frame like 4006, CZ75, Glock, and quite a few other models for pretty much 1/2 the price of many of the popular 1911 company models. A. The price of a 1911-style gun can be as low as $350 or as expensive as $2,000+. The average is probably $600 right now. Why so high? Well, for one thing they have more steel in them than just about any other auto popular today (Highpowers have a lot too, and have you seen what browning wants for those?) . The simplicity of the design means high durability and demanding manufacturing specs and this means you pay more. Aluminum frames (Beretta, Ruger) are easy to do and tolerances are far easier to achieve. The CZ-75B (all steel) is cheaper than most 1911 guns (save the RIA/Charles Daly 1911 series) because the frame is cast and the gun uses split pins, has no firing pin retaining plate, and Czech labor is cheap. Q. I remember hearing this guy before a Car Talk break a few months ago. He would tell stories using sentences mainly constructed from car makes and models.

Modeling clay - quite often could use a oil based clay like plasticine the oil based clay never dries or hardens but modeling can be done with the other clays.
