Purchasing refers to a business or organization attempting for acquiring goods or services to accomplish the goals of the enterprise. Though there are several organizations that attempt to set standards in the purchasing process, processes can vary greatly between organizations. Typically the word “purchasing” is not used interchangeably with the word “procurement”, since procurement typically includes Expediting, Supplier Quality, and Traffic and Logistics (T&L) in addition to Purchasing.

What should we consider when purchasing additional property?
Q. My husband and I are looking into purchasing some land (in addition to the house with already have a mortgage on). We don't know much about getting a second mortgage and what to consider when purchasing land without a home dwelling. Any advice?

A. Be careful about 2Nd mortgages; THEY are very expensive. find a mortgage broker. pay NOTHING out of your pocket for credit check, appraisal, app fees. all can come out of the loan. IT m i g h t be better to get a new first mortgage.

What do Purchasing personnel look for in deciding which vendor to select when buying product?
Q. Some of the obvious purchasing requirements are price, quality, delivery, service, capabilities, etc. Is there a list of requirements in priority in de-sending order?
Asked by John M - Tue Jul 1 16:44:05 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Different types of procurements will have these criteria in different orders. For commodity goods, things that are of a fairly standard quality and are indistinguishable from those provided by your competition, price, time to deliver and service are the main considerations. If you produce a unique or especially useful version of something that others also produce, but yours is better or worse than the competition, then you would look for procurements to a tight specification if you are the higher quality producer, or procurements where price is the main factor if yours is good enough, and the cheapest. A procurement is an event of purchasing a given quantity of a given set of products or services. Often large companies and government… [cont.]

How do you optimize purchasing frequency when dollar cost averaging into an index fund?
Q. Is there a formula for this? Should I buy once a month, once a quarter, every time I save up $XXX dollars, or is there some other method of optimal purchasing frequency?
Asked by DixieDownUnder - Sun Mar 2 05:11:01 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. As mentioned above, it is criticized, and I agree broadly with the criticism. The problem is that frequency is irrelevant in all respects to return, ex ante. Now after the fact, if you could have known the future, that is different. If you plan to save a fixed amount of money, say $1000 increments, then simply make purchases equal to the amount of time that it takes to get $1000. You could also do $100 increments in many funds, although if there is a fee or commission then you will want to minimize the commission. In that case, where there is a 10.00 commission, for example, then you should take the 10.00 and divide it by the purchase price. That gives you your lost yield So a 10 commission on 1000 is 1%, wait ten times as long,… [cont.]
